Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel darted across the track immediately ahead of his car

The alarming incident took place on the third lap when track officials were seen on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an early pitstop to swap his compromised front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Moments later, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his team engineer saying: "Is this for real? Could you believe what happened? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was observing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I arrived at Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two individuals dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's pretty unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track track officials can be allowed to just run across the track in that manner. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm confident we'll get some kind of clarification, but this must never be repeated"

Formal Inquiry in Progress

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is actively examining the circumstances

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was advised that fragments were located on the track at the critical section of that bend" commented the FIA

"In the third rotation, marshals were notified and placed on standby to access the circuit and recover the debris once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the orders to send officials were rescinded and a safety warning flag was raised in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what happened following that moment"
